Service Overview

A Google Group provides a convenient way for you to communicate and collaborate with a group of people. Use a Google Group to:

  • Send an email to group members

  • Easily apply sharing permissions to Google documents 

  • Add groups to calendar invitations 

UD has two types of Google Groups:

Owner-defined groups: The group owner manages the group’s membership and other settings to meet their needs. These are commonly used for managing communication to departments, committees and campus organizations. Groups may include non-UD members. 

Computed groups: Computed groups create and update membership automatically based on specific parameters in an individual’s records in Banner or other systems. Computed groups may require additional data permissions.
