Discontinued Courses and Academic Reprieve Request

Service Overview

Primary advisors should use this form to replace a discontinued course in a student’s degree requirements. Advisors must attach approval documentation from the student that they acknowledge and approval of the course reprieve on their academic record.

A discontinued course refers to a course that is no longer offered at the University of Dayton under the same prefix and number.

If a course has been discontinued, students may request an academic reprieve for the discontinued course. Academic reprieve is limited to discontinued courses in which a grade of D or F was earned. If the reprieve is granted, the grade will remain on the transcript with an “E” (grade excluded) notation, and credits for the excluded course will apply against the student’s 12 course retake credit allotment.

If a discontinued course has been replaced with a new course in a student’s degree requirements, the new course will not be considered a retake of the discontinued course. The new course will be subject to the standard conditions and limitations of the retake policy.
