Resolving SPSS Issues on macOS Sonoma

In certain instances, SPSS will not function correctly on macOS Sonoma. If you encounter any issues, use one of the following fix options.

REMINDER: SPSS is available for use through the Academic VDI and is available for student use

Option 1: Install the IBM patch

  1. Click the IBM Known Issues link: SPSS Statistics Doesn't Run on Sonoma (macOS 14.0) - Fix Available

  2. Go to the right side of the page and click on the appropriate version fix for SPSS (typically it's 29.0.1.1). The Select fixes page appears.

  3. Click Continue.

  4. Create an account with IBM. Once your IBM account has been created, a zip folder downloads to your Mac.

  5. The zip folder contains one .lib file and a notepad instruction file. The instruction file describes how to replace the .lib file on your Mac.

NOTE: If you are uncomfortable replacing the .lib file, visit the UDit Service Center for assistance. You can also use SPSS fix Option 2, or access SPSS through through the Academic VDI.

Option 2: Reinstall the SPSS macOS package from Software at UD

  1. Uninstall the current version of SPSS from your MacBook.

  2. Navigate to software.udayton.edu.

  3. Scroll to SPSS Statistics Standard Campus Edition and click Download.

  4. Request the link for the SPSS install. The package on the Software at UD site has been updated to reflect IBM's patch fix.

  5. Once you obtain the link, reinstall the program. The installation and updated fixes are applied automatically.
