Body
University of Dayton faculty, staff and students have the ability to install a variety of Microsoft products for free on personal devices by creating a Microsoft account with their University email address (e.g. flyerr1@udayton.edu).
UD provides Microsoft access solely for the use of the Office productivity suite. Although additional tools such as Teams, and OneDrive may be available, faculty, staff, and students are expected to use UD’s supported platforms for University business: Gmail for email, Zoom for video conferencing, and Google Drive or Box for file storage and collaboration.
Access
Microsoft Office Installation Procedures
Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project Installation (free for faculty and students, substantially reduced cost for staff)
Storage
To ensure continuity, OneDrive should not be used for departmental or divisional documentation. Instead, use Google Shared Drives or Box for departmental files; this prevents data loss and ensures team access when an employee leaves the university.
Teams and Groups
While UD primarily utilizes Google and Box for collaboration, we understand some projects may require Microsoft-specific tools. Because Group and Team creation is restricted, submit an IT General Help Request if you believe your use case requires these services.
