Learn how to install software updates through Software Center, manage update notifications, and complete required restarts on your UD-owned Windows computer.
- Receive an update notification
When updates are available for your UD-owned Windows computer, you'll receive a notification in the lower-right corner of your screen.
- View available updates
Open Software Center and select the Updates tab to view the available updates.
- Install updates
You have 72 hours (48 hours for Early Adopters) to install updates before the required installation process begins. To install all available updates, select Install All on the Updates screen.
- Choose when to install
When prompted, select one of the following options:
- Right now: Begin installing updates immediately.
- Outside my business hours: Schedule installation outside your designated business hours.
- Snooze and remind me: Postpone installation and receive another reminder.
- Installation notification
When installation begins, a notification will appear in the lower-right corner of your screen.
- Confirm installation
Once updates are installed, their status in Software Center will change to Installed.
- Restart your computer (if required)
Some updates require a restart to complete installation. If a restart is needed, you'll receive a notification. Save your work and restart as soon as possible to avoid an automatic restart later.

Final countdown
After the installation window ends, a four-hour final countdown begins. Updates that have not been installed display Past due - will be installed in Software Center. Restart reminders may be snoozed until the final deadline.
- Automatic installation and restart
When the final countdown expires, remaining updates will install automatically, and your computer will restart if required. You can no longer postpone updates.
Note: If Microsoft Office updates are included, you may receive a notification asking you to save your work and close any open Office applications. Save your work before selecting Install, as open Office applications may close automatically during installation.
