Microsoft 365 license availability is based on your relationship with the University of Dayton. The applications and features available to you may change as your role changes (for example, when you graduate, retire, or your employment status changes).
This article explains the Microsoft 365 licenses available to common University affiliations and when licenses are assigned.

Students
When do students receive Microsoft 365?
Students receive a Microsoft 365 license 60 days before the start of their earliest enrolled course.
What do actively enrolled students receive?
Students who are actively enrolled in courses receive a Microsoft 365 A3 for Students license, which includes the Microsoft Office desktop applications and Microsoft 365 web applications.
What happens after graduation or when I'm no longer enrolled?
Students who are no longer actively enrolled, but whose University account remains active, are assigned an Office 365 A1 for Students license.
NOTE: An A1 license provides access to the Microsoft 365 web applications through https://www.office.com/, but does not include Office desktop applications.
Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff whose work benefits the University are generally assigned a Microsoft 365 A3 license.
Microsoft 365 is available for UD-owned computers through Software Center (Windows) or Jamf Self Service (macOS).
Retired Faculty
Retired faculty, including emeriti faculty, are not assigned a Microsoft 365 A3 license unless they also hold an active University position.
Retired faculty may sign in to https://www.office.com/ using their University account to access Microsoft 365 web applications through an Office 365 A1 license.
NOTE: An A1 license provides access to the Microsoft 365 web applications through https://www.office.com/, but does not include Office desktop applications.
Contractors and Other Affiliates
Marianists, contractors, and other individuals who use Microsoft products for the benefit of the University may be assigned a Microsoft 365 A3 license when appropriate.
License assignments are determined based on an individual's University affiliation and business need.
