Configuration Manager Updates and Patch Management

Body

This article provides an overview of the software update and patching process managed through the Software Center. It details how users receive update notifications, view and initiate installation for available software, schedule updates, and understand reboot requirements and grace period enforcement.

When your computer receives updates you will see a notification in the lower right corner:

You can view the updates in the Updates tab in Software Center.

The updates will stay in there for their grace period of a week. You can select Install All on the Updates page to install all listed updates.

You can select:

  • Right now
  • Outside my business hours
  • Snooze and remind me

Once the installation starts, a pop-up appears in the bottom right.

When the installation is complete, the Status column will update to Installed.

If a reboot is required, you will be prompted with one of the following messages:

After the grace period is over you will see under the Status column Past due - will be installed.

You will not be given an option to snooze and the updates will force a reboot once complete if needed.

NOTE: Should any office updates be listed you will get an alert when you click Install All letting you know you will need to close/save any open office work as it will close them automatically once you click Install.
