AirWatch Setup (Android)

Setting up Airwatch on Android devices

UD's Mobile Device Management (MDM) service (currently AirWatch) installs a profile on your mobile device that configures and maintains basic security settings to help protect your privacy and the university's data.

NOTE: AirWatch is required on all University-sponsored devices.

AirWatch security features

After installing and configuring AirWatch, your device will:

  • Require a device passcode

  • Time out after a period of inactivity and require a password to unlock it

  • Sync your email, contacts, and calendar appointments during the first few minutes after installation if email activation is supported on your device

  • Check periodically to make sure it isn't rooted

  • Display the AirWatch app and the UDayton App Catalog

  • Perform otherwise as it did before you installed the MDM

Step 1: Download the AirWatch Agent app on your Android device

NOTE: Airwatch requires that your device is running OS 4.4.2 or later.

In the Google Play Store, search for the "AirWatch Agent" app and tap Install.

Step 2: Enroll in Airwatch Device Management

  1. Open the AirWatch Agent app

  2. Select "Email Address" as your authentication method

    1. Tap Install

    2. After installation, the "Activate device administrator screen" displays; tap Activate

    3. Agree to the Samsung KNOX privacy notice and tap Confirm

  14. The Activate device administrator screen may display once again, if so:

    1. Tap Activate

    2. Open the AirWatch Agent app

    3. When asked to grant permission to the AirWatch Agent, tap Continue

  15. To configure enterprise resources for your device, tap Continue

  16. When the configuration completes, tap Exit

  17. Once complete, the MDM device status is displayed and you can navigate away from the screen

Step 3: Set a passcode for your device

If you do not already have a passcode, you will be prompted by AirWatch to set one within 60 minutes after your device is enrolled in MDM.

Step 4: Set your email password and activate your email

When you enroll in MDM, your @udayton email is configured on your device. However, you may need to set your email password.

  • On the home screen, tap the Mail app to activate your UDayton email; this may take a few minutes the first time

  • If prompted, enter the password for your UDayton email and tap OK.
