Installing Mobile Device Management (MDM) Software (iOS or Mac OS)

JAMF, the Mobile Device Management (MDM) software for iOS devices, is required for all University-sponsored iOS devices to help protect your privacy and the university's data. You enroll in JAMF with a Managed Apple ID provisioned by UD. This Managed Apple ID lets you install the JAMF MDM profile without affecting your personal Apple ID and associated data. 

Step 1: Confirm and Set Up Your Managed Apple ID

Step 2: Enroll in JAMF MDM

After enrolling in MDM, your device will:

  • Require a passcode
  • Specify a maximum auto-lock
  • Check in periodically to ensure it’s not rooted
  • Display the JAMF Self Service App
  • Perform the same as before MDM enrolled

Step 1: Confirm and Set Up Your Managed Apple ID

Once your enrollment in UD’s mobile device program has been approved, you’ll receive a welcome email from Apple School Manager at with your Managed Apple ID email address (this will end in and a temporary password. To activate your Managed Apple ID, do the following:

  1. Log in at with the credentials provided in the email you received.
  2. Provide the requested information (your phone number and a new password) to complete your account setup.

Once you’ve completed these steps, you’ll be redirected to a confirmation page and your Managed Apple ID will be ready for use with User Enrollment BYOD.

Step 2: Enroll in JAMF

Once you’ve activated your Managed Apple ID, you’re ready to enroll in JAMF Mobile Device Management (MDM).

  1. If the device you're enrolling is not brand new, first navigate to Settings > General > Profiles. If you see Device Manager Profile, tap to view the details. If the profile is signed by, tap Remove Management. Once you've done this (or if there are no Device Manager Profiles listed),  proceed to the next step. 
  2. On the device you want to enroll, open your Safari web browser and navigate to UD’s JAMF enrollment portal ( Log in with your UD credentials.
  3. When prompted, enter your Managed Apple ID and click Continue.
  4. You’ll be prompted to "install the MDM profile for your organization"; click Allow when presented with authorization requests.
  5. In your iOS settings, navigate to Install Profile.
  6. On your iOS device, navigate to Settings - General - Profile.
  7. Tap MDM Profile and Install.
  8. Sign in with your Managed Apple ID credentials.
  9. Once you’ve completed your enrollment, you’ll be prompted to:
    • Install the Self Service app
    • Enable a device passcode requirement (if you don’t already have one enabled).
