Installing Microsoft Office and Azure Developer Tools on Personal Devices

University of Dayton faculty, staff and students have the ability to install Microsoft Office for free on personal devices. To install Microsoft Office on University devices, contact the UDit ServiceCenter at (937) 229-3888.

Additionally, faculty and students can download Microsoft Azure developer tools for educational purposes (i.e., taking or teaching a class).  University staff are not authorized to install these additional tools for everyday work.

Installing Microsoft Office on your personal computer (students, faculty, staff)

Microsoft Office can be installed through the Office Portal.
 

  1. Open a web browser and go to  http://portal.office.com.
     
  2. Click on your account name (i.e. rflyer1@udayton.edu) or if prompted, type your UD email address then click Next.
     
  3. On the Stay signed in window, click Yes or No. (Clicking No is recommended)
     
  4. Login with your UD username and password and authenticate through 2FA.
     
  5. Click the Install apps link then click on Microsoft 365 apps. Follow the install procedures.

 

Accessing Microsoft Azure developer tools (students and faculty ONLY)

Microsoft Azure developer tools are available to faculty and students for educational purposes (i.e. teaching or taking classes).  Access these tools with your Microsoft account credentials that were created with your University email address (e.g. flyerr1@udayton.edu). University staff are not authorized to install these tools for everyday work.

  1. Open a web browser and go to https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools.  Click on Sign In.


     
  2. Click on your account name (i.e. rflyer1@udayton.edu) or if prompted, type your UD email address then click Next.


     
  3. (First login only) Complete the Student Verification information and click Next. Complete the verification process to prove you're not a robot. Click Verify academic status.
     
  4. Login with your UD username and password and authenticate through 2FA.
     
  5. On the Stay signed in window, click Yes or No.
     
  6. You may be prompted to view a Microsoft Azure tour.  Click on Maybe later to continue.


     
  7. Click on the Software link to view available software titles.


     
  8. Select the appropriate software title.  Some software installations (e.g., Microsoft Project) may require a license key. To obtain the license key, click on the View Key button. Copy and paste the license key into a blank word processing document for later use or click the Copy to clipboard icon next to the product key.


     
  9. Click on the Download button (this may take a few minutes depending on the size of the file).


     
  10. Once the file has been downloaded, go to the downloads folder on your computer or go to your web browser's downloads icon. Click on the application's ISO file. If the file does not "autorun" then double-click on the setup file.

    If you are prompted to enter the license key information during or after the installation process, copy and paste it into the appropriate field.
     
  11. Repeat these procedures to install additional tools.
